I am absolutely thrilled with this self-tanner! Having been lucky enough to try many Melvita products I keep waiting for them to ‘trip up’ on a product. This simply does not happen. This product really is very, very good. The exciting part of the product is that it contains no DHA and for this I felt that Melvita had their work cut out for an effective DHA free self-tanning product. My thoughts were completely unfounded. Although my skin always reacts well and successfully to self-tanning products, I have always struggled to find a tanner that over time doesn’t dry out my skin and leave tan effect uneven and unsightly. This amazing product has completely eliminated the side effects of generic self-tan products.
The packaging of the Prosun is an attractive metallic bronze coloured soft squeeze tube, conducive to the product inside, we a practical flip top lid. It is easy to dispense the tanner without the risk of over application. The exciting part of the product is that it contains no DHA and for this I felt that Melvita had their work cut out for an effective DHA free self-tanning product. The golden rule when self-tanning is that you should always prepare your skin first. A good exfoliating product all over, preferably the day before tanning is a must especially concentrating on the roughest, driest areas of skin. This way you skin is a perfect receptacle for your product and it will not stain or gather in rough dry areas. Of course there is no such thing as a quick fix, rush job with self-tanning. You should always set aside a time to do this, unrushed and with care. Many tanning mishaps occur by rushing and not following the instructions properly.
The product itself is a gorgeous, medium consistency peachy, caramel coloured cream which dispenses from the tube beautifully. Upon application to my skin I found that the product simply glides on with a silky smooth texture, which for me was better quality than some generic moisturisers. The cream sinks into the skin immediately and is so easy to work across all areas of the body without any risk of missed parts. Exfoliating before application always ensures that the product with enter the skin as it should. Prosun states that it contains “Erythrulose – an innovative, plant-based bronzing agent, derived from cane sugar”. I was amazed at the scent of this product. None of the usual harsh, pungent scent that many self-tanners give. I admit, I failed to detect the vanilla scent in the product but it does have a wonderfully indulgent caramel scent which perhaps is conducive to the Erythrulse that is derived from cane sugar? The fragrance is quite strong but soon dissipates to a pleasant hint of fragrance after usage. Usually after using a self-tanner I am tempted to use a moisturiser on top but with Prosun my skin feels soft, supple, deeply moisturised and the effects last right through until my next shower. With so many oils packed into the ingredient list this is quite a powerful moisturiser as well as a tanner. I also noted that you can dress almost immediately after use as the product left none of the tell-tale, sticky residue after use. This for me is a HUGE plus!
The effects of tanning products are usually quite rapid for me and this was no exception. Overnight the product produced a significant natural tan both on my body and my facial area. It looks wonderfully natural and not a streak in sight. After a week of use my facial skin suffered no adverse effects and even around the eye area it caused no puffiness or irritation. I noted that I was able to reach my desired level of colour quickly and efficiently and after a week of daily applications, my skin has suffered no dryness or signs of a patchy tan. Many people have asked me if I have been on holiday? This for me is a testament to a good self-tan product. If other people think that your tan is natural then your product is working for you.
A week of usage has barely touched my tube as the product is so highly concentrated. I would not begrudge paying £20.00 for this product due to its high quality ingredients and long lasting tube. I am actually hard pushed to say that I have used anything of superior quality because, in short, I have not used a better product than this. With the added bonus of organic ingredients and no DHA, Melvita have ensured that you never need to expose your skin to harmful UVA & UVB again. A healthy natural glow from healthy natural ingredients makes this the most effective and easy to use self-tanning product that I have ever used. Excellent Melvita!!
